On the second floor of Dorothy Pauley Square, the 200-seat Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse provides an intimate space for close encounters with top regional and local talent. The enchanting space contains a revolutionary flexible seating arrangement with folding risers that can accommodate every performance.
Comfortable chairs flank the sides of the theater, and moveable cushioned stadium seating provides patrons a full view of the stage area while performance hall-quality acoustics and state-of-the-art lighting bolster every entertainer’s experience. A second configuration allows for the performance stage to be in the center of the theater, making even patrons in the back row feel within reach of the performers. Despite its small size, Gottwald Playhouse has state-of-the-art lighting and performance hall-quality acoustics. Gottwald Playhouse’s concession bar features a mosaic tile parrot mural, similar to the ones in the lobby of the Carpenter Theatre.
The Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse is also available for private and corporate use and is well-suited for lectures, conventions and presentations. There are several meeting and reception rooms nearby on the second floor, and the Playhouse is close to the elevators, main staircase and the Grace Street Lobby. Whether it’s for an artist’s showcase or solo, youth acting group or a corporate function, the Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse will have something for everyone and provide a valuable service to the downtown area as an entertainment and meeting facility.
